About BPH

Bespoke Procurement House is a furniture and joinery procurement company based in London. We source, cost, produce, import and install furniture, joinery and FF&E for UK projects.

Who runs it

BPH is run by Serbulent Gokcenoglu.

Before this he managed buying and procurement for The Sofa & Chair Company, which is where he learned the discipline properly — supplier negotiation, lead-time management, what a specification actually costs, and how much of a project’s margin gets lost to poor coordination rather than poor pricing.

Before that he ran a furniture manufacturing brand with a friend, making and selling their own product to the public. It ran for three years and then it failed.

That failure is the more useful half of the story. Owning production teaches you exactly how a workshop thinks — where it makes money, which corners it is tempted to cut, what a realistic lead time looks like as opposed to the one on the order confirmation, and how to tell the difference standing on a factory floor. It is also why BPH does not own a workshop today. A company that owns machinery specifies work that suits its machinery. We would rather specify the maker that suits the piece.

Turkish by background, in the UK for around ten years, working in English and Turkish. That last part is not incidental — it is the reason the Turkish manufacturing relationships work the way they do.

What we are, precisely

We are a procurement house. We are not a manufacturer and not a retailer.

That distinction matters commercially. A retailer sells you what it has bought. A manufacturer sells you what it can make. We are paid to work out the right route for each item on a schedule and then carry the whole chain — supplier selection, costing, drawings and samples, production quality control, freight, Incoterms, customs, warehousing, delivery, installation and snagging.

On a single project that can mean an Italian brand, a Turkish workshop, a London upholsterer and a stone supplier, all arriving at one address on one day.

How we work

Carefully, and early. Furniture projects generate problems that cannot be ignored — a slab that cracks, a fabric that is discontinued, a lift that will not take a sofa. The way to be good at this is not to be quick at firefighting, it is to have thought about it eight weeks earlier.

That is why we produce drawings and issue samples before production, and why we inspect at the workshop rather than at the door.

Where things are made

Openly: mostly Turkey, in workshops we use repeatedly and visit during production runs. Very high-end joinery and most upholstery goes to London workshops instead.

We say this on the site rather than in the meeting because it explains our pricing, and because a supplier who is vague about where your furniture is made is telling you something.
